Document Formats Used on this
Site
This site distributes its information using several
common document formats.
.PDF Documents
.PDF documents are used by the Adobe Acrobat
Reader. You will need this reader installed on your computer. The software is free and may
be downloaded from the Adobe web site at this address:
Select the version appropriate to your operating
system and download the installation
program. Once you run the downloaded program, Adobe Acrobat should
be installed. Click on any .PDF link and Adobe Reader should run
and display your document.
.DOC Documents
.DOC documents are the native document format used by
Microsoft Word. If you use Word, or if your word processing program
can read .DOC documents, you can use this format. Click on the
.DOC link and Microsoft Word (or your word processor) should start and
display your document.
.RTF Documents
.RTF stands for Revisable Text Format. This is an
attempt by word processor companies to have a standard format for document
interchange. As long as the original document is not too exotic,
this format is useful. There are some situations in which the
original document will not translate correctly to a .RTF format. If
that should occur with documents on this site, then the .RTF link will not
be available.
On this site Microsoft Word XP is used to convert the
original .DOC documents to .RTF.
.ZIP Files
A .ZIP file is a convenient way of packaging multiple
documents of any format into a single, compressed archive for download.
For example, it can contain any combination of .DOC, .RTF, and .PDF
documents.
Several of the documents on this site may be combined into one
.ZIP file for easy download.
There are several ZIP programs
available. You will need to use one of these programs
to un-ZIP the file. After un-ZIPing, the original documents will be
accessible.
One of the most popular ZIP programs is available here:
There are others as well, and Windows XP has built-in .ZIP file
software.
